Man arrested, charged after firing BB gun at cars near elementary school

HOOKENA (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hawaii Island police on Saturday charged a man who allegedly fired BB gun pellets at cars near an elementary school, officials said.
Authorities said 38-year-old Warren Cho Jr., of Captain Cook, is charged with terroristic threatening.
Officers were called out to an area of Mamalahoa Highway just before 7 a.m. Friday near Hookena Elementary School after receiving reports of the Cho Jr. allegedly shooting at passing vehicles.
Upon arriving on scene, officers saw Cho Jr. carrying what appeared to be a rifle, which was later identified as a break barrel BB/pellet gun.
While speaking with witnesses and victims at the scene, the elementary school went on lockdown after employees reportedly saw Cho Jr. staring into the schoolyard where students were playing, officials said.
Shortly after, police disarmed Cho Jr. and took him into custody.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Cho Jr.’s bail was set at $5,000. He’s expected to appear in court on Monday.
Anyone who witnessed this incident or is an unidentified victim is asked to contact Officer Dane Shibuya Jr. at (808) 326-4646, ext. 253.
